Counselling for Adults

Features of Counselling

There really is no need to be anxious, frustrated, angry, sad or depressed.  Your relationships can either be successful or satisfactorily terminated.  If you feel shame or guilt you may just need a little support to regain your equilibrium and happiness.  EVERYBODY DESERVES TO BE HAPPY.

Counselling takes place in a comfortable and confidential space and is designed to explore and respond to your specific needs.  Your time with me is contracted and this contract specifies what you can expect from counselling, how many sessions you may wish to attend and what costs are involved.  This contract conforms to ethical best practice.

I am a caring, yet proactive counsellor committed to helping you access your inner resources that may have been subdued by your current difficulties.   I listen carefully to what you have to say and explore the precedents of where you are with the sole intention of mapping a positive way forward to enable you better to get what you want from life.

To this end we can discuss what strategies and techniques are the most useful and helpful for you.  All of these are backed by the latest research into psychological outcomes or neuroscience.

Your safety and security is paramount and we move forward at a pace that is always appropriate, yet occasionally challenging.

Feature 1 positive psychology

Positive psychology works by assuming that whatever state of mind an individual is in, it can always be better.  Scientific research has now firmly established that there are clear ways for any person to improve their own mental health and wellbeing.  Some of these are based on common sense; others on ancient and received wisdom; and others confirmed by the latest developments in neuroscience, currently one of the most exciting frontiers of research.

Feature 2 orientations

When counselling adults I operate an eclectic approach.  Depending on a client's needs I can use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Person Centred Therapy or Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
